History

In 1898, Pieter Michael Thissen established his own billiard factory after years of working as an independent billiard repairman. Together with Maria Slegers, he founded the company 'Billiards Thissen - Slegers' at the corner of Kerkstraat and Carnotstraat in Borgerhout.

Thissen distinguished itself by hiring a full-time sculptor, making each billiard table unique and exclusive. Later, the company expanded into the complete furnishing of cafes.

"In the 1930s, the company grew so rapidly that a move to a larger space on Van Wesenbekestraat in Antwerp was necessary. The headquarters are still located here, while the workshops in Van Leentstraat in Borgerhout remained for production.

New era

After the war years of '40 - '45, a new era began. Thissen Billiards introduced the Ambassador billiard table with red Pullman cushions, followed by the Super Ambassador, which was the first to be offered for rent to the hospitality industry.

In the 1950s, production began on the innovative Super Stakanit foosball table, featuring patented 'acid-etched' glass and cork playing balls for unprecedented spin possibilities.

Over the years, the showroom on Van Wesenbekestraat was significantly expanded and reopened in completely renovated condition for the occasion of the 100th anniversary.

To meet current demand, we now offer an extensive range of 'dining table billiards' in addition to traditional billiards, designed to complement any interior.

In 2007, the old workshops on Van Leentstraat relocated to Nijverheidsstraat in Wommelgem.
